Julie Norburn graduated in 1996 with a BA (Hons) in Community Art and Education Studies, then qualified as a teacher gaining PGCE Primary with Arts specialism in 1997.
She has teaching experience with children and adults with varied needs and abilities in many community contexts. She has trained in counselling and therapeutic work with children and has extensive experience in lecturing and consultation. Julie has secured several fundraising bids.
Highly motivated in project management and highlights include Cow Parade, Brixton Tube Station and Peckham Youth Space. She is Stockwell Studios Education Outreach Co-ordinator as well as the chief curator for the busy bi-annual Stockwell Studios Artists Open Show. She has run several accredited training courses for young people and adults. She is an inspirational workshop leader for many festivals, including Thames Festival, Notting Hill Carnival and Sydney Mardi Gras. Julie has also worked on a month long residency in India for Nek Chand.
Chosen mediums include mosaic, paint and recycled artwork. Specialised at degree level, mosaic is her real passion and she has become an established artist in this field. Recently trained in Ravenna, Italy, studying ancient application. Julie’s work has been exhibited in many London venues.
Along with her freelance work, in 1999 she collaborated with Danielle Lees-Smith and Elinor Seath in establishing Art4Space – a hugely successful community arts organisation who have completed over 200 commissions.
