A busy and cold half term for the Art4Space girls…..

Our next project will be at Rockmount School in Gipsy Hill. The Art4Space girls had to get out to the wall in half term to prep it up while the children weren’t in. The wall will be transformed over the next few months as each letters will be created through a series of workshops with mosaic and ceramic pieces. See below for before and after so far……

In response to the recent coverage in ‘The Guardian’ newspaper and subsequent press; To clarify, we are in negotiations with the new developers for the site and have an alternative proposal if the development scheme fails to get through planning. Art4Space are committed to continuing their services throughout this time of unrest. Thank you to everyone who has shown concern and support for Art4Space in these unsettling times.

‘Clipathon’ – Art4Space fundraising challenge

Dear Supporters

Art4Space have received a grant from the Walcot Foundation to run training courses in ‘Employability and Community Arts’ starting in January 2012 – this is such exciting news for our business and its development.

We desperately need a new LAPTOP and DIGITAL PROJECTOR to aid our teaching and support the students in their learning – so we have come up with a fundraising challenge – our target is to raise £1000 in 1 month….

‘CLIPATHON’

The Art4space staff and volunteers will mosaic through the night of 11/11/11 to create a mosaic notice board for the Art4Space Centre to let the local community know about events and courses at the centre.

WE NEED YOUR HELP – the magic numbers are 10 people give £10 and tell 10 more people who also give £10 and tell 10 more people who give £10 to achieve our target of £1000... any monies left over will be put towards insulating the building and buying more heaters.

‘Creative ways to Happiness and Wellbeing’

Art4Space were proud to host this event on Thursday 13th October, exploring the therapeutic benefits of creativity and the concepts of happiness and wellbeing. It was a dynamic evening of hugging, singing, meditation, speeches, discussion, chai and cake! A BIG thank you to Nan Fee for leading the singing, Vanessa King (Action for Happiness), Roy Sutherwood (Jamyang Buddhist Centre) and Michelle Baharier (Cooltan Arts). Also a BIG thanks to Majella (Guerilla Hugs) for hugging, Natalie for making the Chai and Anja (Love Cakes) for her beautiful cakes. A special mention must go to Maren Grotemeier for helping to pull everything together. We hope that everyone who came enjoyed the evening and for those who were unable to make we will be looking to host another similar event in the new year.

Stockwell Festival

Art4Space ran the art workshops for the festival on Saturday 17th September. The ‘Peace by Piece’ wall was a huge success and children decorated paper doves for the festival parade. A BIG thanks to the Network Challenge team and our volunteers who helped to make the day run smoothly.

Art4Space have received funding from the Walcot Foundation to run training courses in ’Community Art and Skills for Life’. It has been a lot of hard work an we are on track to begin the courses in January 2012. A BIG thanks to everyone who has helped to make this happen – it is a very proud moment for Art4Space and we look forward to starting the training.

Art4Space have been busy this summer installing a mosaic/ceramic and painted mural for St Lukes School in Queens Park, North London. The whole school was involved in the project, starting with design work, making ceramic pieces and creating the mosaics for this stunning mural celebrating ‘Cultural Diversity’. The school applied to ‘Awards for All’ to make this project happen.
